SHRM/CDC Update on COVID-19: Understanding What Has Happened and What Is Ahead

Get the latest insight on the spread of the coronavirus and its impact on employers and workers. Jay Butler, MD, deputy director for infectious diseases at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), will provide government updates and advice on what to expect in the coming weeks. SHRM president and CEO Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., will provide an update on steps SHRM and the HR community are taking during this crisis to keep workers safe. Alex Alonso and Amber Clayton from SHRM will review the tough choices employers are having to make and compliance implications as this crisis continues to reshape the U.S. workplace.

Note: Due to the large number of attendees expected, the presenters will not be able to take live questions during the program.

About the Presenters:

Dr. Jay Butler, MD, is deputy director for infectious diseases at the Centers for Disease Control. In this capacity, he provides leadership of CDC’s three infectious disease national centers and helps to advance the agency’s cross-cutting infectious disease priorities. He has 30 years of experience in public health leadership and management positions. He is board certified in medicine, pediatrics and infectious diseases, and has served in public health positions in federal, state, and tribal governments.  

Johnny C. Taylor, Jr., SHRM-SCP, is president and CEO of the Society for Human Resource Management. Prior to leading SHRM, he served a two-year term as chair of the SHRM Board of Directors in 2005 and 2006. Taylor is the immediate past president and CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund. His career also spans nearly 15 years in the practice of law and HR.

Alexander Alonso, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, is chief knowledge officer at the Society for Human Resource Management. He leads operations for SHRM's Certified Professional and Senior Certified Professional certifications, research functions and the SHRM HR Knowledge Advisor service.

Amber Clayton, SHRM-SCP, is director of the SHRM HR Knowledge Center. She joined the Knowledge Center team in 2011, after a career in HR leadership positions in the retail and medical sectors.

SHRM Certification has approved this webcast for 1 PDC toward SHRM-CP and SHRM-SCP recertification. A program code will be provided at the end of the webcast. The program also meets recertification credit standards set by the HR Certification Institute and other HR certifying bodies, but candidates must manually enter their activity into their records.
